Though two score – and plenty – in,
Too late, they say, to begin,
Our souls we blithely reveal,
Well past the closing time’s peal,
Contentment Illusions shatter, We grasp the hearts of our matter.
From separate lives – beset with strife, We treasure each moment of Our Life!
How did we become these creatures,
Strolling beyond our natures?
Through strange new landscapes we roam,
While feeling – at last – “I’m home!”
Contentment Illusions shatter, We grasp the hearts of our matter.
From separate lives – beset with strife, We treasure each moment of Our Life!
Peeling what’s past from what’s real,
These smiles we cannot conceal.
The truth we have made our own,
Sung to the sky, “I’m not alone!”
Contentment Illusions shatter, We grasp the hearts of our matter.
From separate lives – beset with strife, We treasure each moment of Our Life!
We now dwell in our own place,
Securely in love’s embrace,
Where nothing they do or say,
Can frighten our bliss away.
Contentment Illusions shatter, We grasp the hearts of our matter.
From separate lives – beset with strife, We treasure each moment of Our Life!
Come three score. Come four or more.
As one our love will endure.
With wide-open eyes we will share
Each day with infinite care.
Contentment Illusions shatter, We grasp the hearts of our matter.
From separate lives – beset with strife, We treasure each moment of Our Life!
– to my dear Nancy on her birthday.
The first of what will be many shared celebrations in our life together. Begun miraculously at a time in our lives where we thought we were reasonably happy – only to discover, through each other, that we deserved more. And we have found much, much more by fearlessly and honestly sharing ourselves, our passions, our sorrows and our dreams with each other every moment of every day. This is love. This is happiness.
All my love,
